This picture was taken at the 2012 Graduate School's Commencement Ceremony.  David Wolf is the speaker in the bottom left corner of the picture, and he is the also the man in the blue suit floating above in the picture.  I am very proud of the astronauts that have come out of Purdue, and it was great to hear him speak in person.

Fotoflexer is a useful way to edit photos online.  I probably will not use it, as I prefer Adobe's Photoshop, but it would be useful if I did not have that software.  The picture was taken from the balcony in Elliott Hall of Music with low lighting, therefore, Fotoflexer did a good job of correcting the low lighting, contrast, and focus of the photo.

You Tube (Module #10)

This is how Purdue Libraries use You Tube to inform people about the libraries. As a Purdue alum, I find it funny that the libraries at Purdue need advertising. The libraries are literally everywhere, and if you are a good student, you will inevitably use them. I love the libraries at Purdue and have used them many times, and for many hours. It would be more interesting to find out about special services provided by Purdue Libraries, or special items in its collection. The commercials are fine, they just remind me of when Bill Bryson talked about how the US Postal Office has a customer appreciation day.

Virtual Bookshelves (Module #9)

I do not see myself using virtual bookshelves. Whenever I decide to read a book, it has to pass certain criteria. 1) It is by an author that I like. 2) Someone I know and respect recommended the book. 3) It is a classic/or universally respected book that I would be crazy not to read. 4) It is from a college reading list. 5) It is written by one of top minds in a particular field. I enjoy occupying my time by reading, but I stick to these criteria to avoid wasting hours on a book that I end up not liking.

Facebook (Module #8)

Facebook is a useful tool for libraries because of its popularity. Libraries can reach many people through Facebook, because many people use Facebook. The main drawback of using Facebook, is that it would need a person (or many people) to moderate the page constantly. A Facebook page is more useful for an organization and those it serves when it is interactive.

Twitter (Module #7)

Twitter is a great way for me to keep up with what is happening around Purdue, or the sports world in general. The main place from which I get news and current events is BBC News. I do not follow them on twitter, as I prefer to keep my Twitter predominately Purdue related.

RSS (Module #4)

RSS feeds provide a useful way to consolidate meaningful information.  People spend many hours on the Internet each day, and anything to help streamline this process is great.  Hopefully, those people will have time to explore the world outside of the Internet, and perhaps... go outside, spend time with family and friends, or go to the library.   I do not find myself using RSS feeds, as the bookmarks on Safari work equally well for me, even with the advertising that comes with visiting each site (which I do not mind).

Flickr (Module #5)

I uploaded a photo from the Mackey Re-Dedication game. The game occurred on 11/11/11 and it was a great way to begin the season.

Flickr could be a good tool to help patrons become acclimated with the library. Furthermore, for those patrons that are unable to come to our library, they can still see the beautiful Swezey Room with the stained glass window. Mackey Re-Dedication Game
